ACT Test Information Release (TIR): What You Need to Know
By Maki Gorchynsky | August 28, 2019
The ACT Test Information release (TIR) is a service the ACT provides that allows students to request a copy of the multiple-choice test questions used to determine their score, a list of their answers, and the answer key. Students taking the ACT with Writing can also receive a copy of the essay prompt, the scoring rubric, and the Writing scores assigned by individual graders (ACT Writing scores are made up of the sum of scores given by two readers, but individual readers’ scores don’t appear on regular score reports). Also, students will receive information in their TIR materials about ordering a photocopy of their scanned answer document (including the essay for those taking the Writing test).
TIR is available for students testing on a National testing date in December, April, or June each year. TIR is not available for any other ACT test dates. Students can elect to purchase the TIR service when they register for the ACT and up to 5 days after the test date through their ACT Web Accounts. The fee for TIR is currently $22.
TIR is a great service that all students should take advantage of on the test dates it’s offered. Taking the ACT is a whirlwind, fatiguing experience. Having the opportunity to go back and calmly analyze the actual test itself is an invaluable way to prepare to retake the exam. Students will often times find patterns in the type of questions they missed and be able to determine whether they made simple mistakes, rushed errors, or struggled with specific content areas, allowing them to better tailor their test preparation moving forward.
